What do people think about using a e-ink color display instead of OLED? It is just a question, not saying we will use it.

I would think that a wheel makes more sense than the initial slider youare getting pretty limited in terms of space on the front of the case.
Seeing the OLED for me it is very much about the mt32-pi for me as it would end up being really useful for that but seeing that image with the battery icon on the display has got me thinking about displaying how charged the controller is for people using things like the 8BitDo then it got me thinking about displaying scores in arcade cores.
Silly ideas really, I'd imagine modifications being needed to whatever was running and it's also getting deep into feature creep with daft ideas like these. It's often best to not over complicate things.
Yeah I understand. The MT32-pi display will be on the cassette so maybe we should have some way of shutting off the main display if people don't want to see it, not everyone likes a glowing display. I'll look into it.
No, sorry, I think I'm just not explaining very well.
I'm certainly not against having either of the screens there but I was trying to explain that MT32-Pi screen for me is the important screen and I'd be diappointed if that wasn't there but anything other than that is extra to what I see as the important reason for having a screen but I'm certainly not against having the casette screen and/or the the second screen in any way.
I hope that makes more sense?
I'm certainly looking forward to seeing what intersting things you're able to do with the screens as I imagine you have a few ideas bouncing around in your head at the moment. I said, I do like the idea of being able to see how charged your controller is on the screen but I imagine things like that are just complicating things.
Fully understood.

I think we can come up with something that people like.

No way the case is going to be big enough to fit the Mister, the custom boards, a hdd and a raspberry pi for mt32-pi though right?

Oh wait or is there going to be a mt32-pi cassette? I think I misunderstood.

The cassette will hold the mt32-pi, correct.
To be fair though it takes planning to be able to fit everything, but it will be ok.

Please be sure it will fit both RPI A and B models. While it's likely most mt32-pi users have the A model, I had a spare B model I didn't used, so perhaps others are in the same situation, it would be nice if the case could fit both.

I think it's gonna be a little bit expensive but then again I do believe there surely is a big market for a more premium mister case.

The idea is to make it as universal as possible so we know people use different boards.

We will see what happens. If there is no market for it then me and Mikael will at least have a conversation piece if people come over  .

Interesting, what would the advantages be in using one rather than the other?
I mean, I know the strengths and weaknesses of both types of display it's more that I'm not really sure if there's a benefit of one over the other in this particular situation.
For me, either is fine. ;)
I mostly thought about it not emitting light like a OLED display does, some people like it more "toned down". The mt32-pi cassette will have a OLED because it needs to display the animated bars properly.

At first I was thinking about using an e-ink for my project
C717F50E-BAE8-4919-8E52-B4EF9F896945.jpeg
But no animation possible.
The 3-Color e-ink (with yellow) needs about 25secs for the picture to be shown completely.
That was too long for me.
Red‘s are a bit faster but I like the yellow color.

Btw, the Picture was written to the Display about three months before :)

Yeah the lack of animation is a problem for sure, if it had that I would consider it for everything.
Being able to hold the image on the display is a great feature of e-ink.

Nice. E-ink is one of those areas I am "watching this space". Right now e-ink kind of reminds me of the first laptop with a color LCD I tried out in the 90s, though (a blurry mess ).

question will this work with 2 ram modules or does this become junk if that happens there might be cores in the future that might use 2 ram modules .

Sorry for the late reply folks, project is still alive.
We are ordering some parts and fixing a couple of issues (pcb design) so the time frame is a little off compared to what we first wanted. Update regarding OLED and fixes should come later this month so we will update you accordingly.

Again, sorry for the lack of updates.

Hello everyone, new to the MiSTer scene (DE10 arrived yesterday) and just registered to post what an awesome case/pcb design this is!
I was wondering what, apart from the aesthetics and the display, the main difference is between this design and RMCretro's MiSTer Multisystem. This seem to cover the same ground, no?

There are actually months in between some of the replies so I think it is time to knock off the "Irony" posts when people are just trying to see if the poject is still moving forward.

Bits n Stuff wrote: Wed May 12, 2021 1:20 am I think with projects like MiSTer it's worth remembering that the vast majority of work done for the project is sone in people's own time rather than being their day to day job. It may be a little more complex with hardware projects too as there's always going to be a lead time when having anything produced and everything seems to run a little slower these days.
Also, people may just want to take a little time off from working on something.
It's a very different thing if you've bought a product from somebody but that's not what this is, it's a project that seems to have progressed steadily over the past few months and I think we get updates and photos pretty steadily.
I'm sure it will have been worth the wait when people eventually get their hands on this. ;)
This is true but there is nothing wrong with asking of the status of the project as well.

This has to be one of the best case designs for the Mister. I would happily wait to purchase this case and I'm sure there are a lot of others who will do the same. It's always exciting to see new updates on this thread but we know how life goes sometimes, especially on hobbies like this. Also hope everyone is doing well and let's keep this place a positive one!
