@eriks5 Thank you for bringing the Commodore 128 to MiSTer.

I'm not getting any response from my Terminal Software. Is anyone else able to call any BBS with the C128 core? Same issue when I try the C128_64.mra.

Update all does not grab the core. Does the presence of a mra folder confuse the script?

It was in the distribution repo and I verified it downloaded before posting in the release topic, but it's gone now. ???

Yes, I've used both NovaTerm and DesTerm successfully. Make sure your baud rates match.

Thanks for confirming it works. I verified my baud rate matches still no-go.

Might be worth offering more specifics - software (and software configuration) you're attempting to use, all of your core serial settings, etc.

For the life of me, I can't seem to get this C128 core to run.
I followed the instructions from the readme but I'm still getting a black screen when I tried to run C128 flat.mra or C128DCR.mra from /_Computer.

Code: Select all

Move the core's C128_XXXXXXXX.rbf file from the /_Computer/ folder to a (new) /_Computer/cores/ folder,
Download (some of) the *.mra files from the mra directory and place them in the /_Computer/ folder,
Download C128rom.zip and place that in the /games/mame/ folder,
Both boot0.rom and boot1.rom file are placed in the games/C128

Erick5, Thank you for the core.

TuffyDK.
I installed manually the core and boot files downloaded from the Erick distributution repro.
I change the Video output while loading games and apps. I use a VGA CRT Monitor.

Yes - Hardware menu, choose a port, change to Mouse.

Works great! Installed it by using update_all script. Does anyone know how to get DolphinDos working in C128 and C64 mode to make loading a lot faster?

I can answer my own question. I managed to replace the C128 & C64 kernels with the DolphinDos versions of it. I I also replaced the 1541 rom with dolphindos. Works great. I attached the files. Choose both files (system rom & drive rom) in the hardware settings and make sure you enable the parallel port. Also use 1541 as your drive . You will now have Dolphin Dos 2 in C64 and C128 mode.

The source code is available for free on GitHub with an “unlicense” license. That seems like a pretty clear cut OK to me.

If you are using the stock IEC user port adapter as specified in C64 docs, and I am not mistaken, it does not connect PIN 1 of the IEC port (Serial Service Request) and I believe that is needed for fast serial.
If what you are working with does, then please disregard.

I have tested this with a modded SNAC2IEC Adapter today.

I have the same problem on a VGA CRT with the scandoubler on. Selecting the 80 column mode lose the sync.

I'll have to look into that. But I think I know what I did wrong, vsync is probably too short.

Unfortunately I don't have a way to test, haven't looked into hooking an analog display up yet

@eriks5 Thank you for bringing the Commodore 128 to MiSTer.

I'm not getting any response from my Terminal Software. Is anyone else able to call any BBS with the C128 core? Same issue when I try the C128_64.mra.

Yes, I've used both NovaTerm and DesTerm successfully. Make sure your baud rates match.

I was able to get dialogue_128_v2.2 working :D . Now, I'm having trouble setting up NovaTerm and DesTerm. I can't figure out how to access the Terminal Menu to set the baud rate. Do you remember the key to access the menu? Thanks.

This should hopefully be fixed in today's release. Still don't have a display to test with, but using a scope to check the sync signals they definitely were not correct and should be better now. At least for the standard video modes.

I saw the changelog and tried the VDC output in Basic and also the "Risen from Oblivion" VDC demo.

All works fine and shows on my 15kHz CRT, but I see a slight horizontal ripple in that video mode. It is most visible with the OSD active. Vertical sync is stable.

VDC output works now on a CRT TV. Infocom's text adventures look sharp in NTSC. Running a PAL demo I can see pixels shaking very slightly, but I don't know how image looked on real hardware to judge it properly. I heard that VDC's output spec could be stretched pretty wide by programmers.
Thanks for the update.
