I did a quick search for potential development of those cores. Not much out there. Anyone have any insight if these are being worked on?

"Ιδού πεδίον δόξης λαμπρόν" as they say in my ole country.

You could initially try to research how you'd contribute to make that wish come true :)

Not a core, per se, furrtek has been reverse engineering various Konami chips. Some of those may be used by some of these games.

Are the cores just super difficult compared to cps2 and system 16 or are these games not as popular as some of us used to think?

I believe it's that there are a lot of custom chips and will require quite a lot of work per game vs cps2 for instance which had many games running off the same hardware. I could be wrong but this is what I recall from discord chats from a while ago.

I would dare to say – but that's more a wink at Jotego than something serious – that Jotego can't do all boards at once. Give him time. *wink*

More seriously, I have to contact Jotego about a board, we may see what happens.

Fascinating, I never knew such games although less powerful than later 90's early 2000s arcade hardware, could still be so complex on account of their custom chipsets.

He's a pro, the thing is though he's doing Sega stuff (keeping my fingers crossed he'll get to System 32 - Spider-Man the Video Game Arcade says hi) I have a feeling once he's done that there will be more time for stand alone cores for TMNT, X-Men, etc. should he decide to take up that mantle.

All I know is said Konami beat-em-ups would make me VERY excited!

The Holy Three: TMNT, TMNT 2, Vendetta Japanese version.
Good thing, I forgot writing to Jotego today, so I am doing it now.

The big 6 for me are the two turtles games you mentioned, Spider-Man, X-Men, Battletoads and the Simpsons. But to each his own, a I wouldn't mind Vendetta.

It seems like Konami did eventually sort of standardize on the GX System for their 2D games... just in time for the industry's big shift to PlayStation-based hardware. Before then, though, there was a lot of "remixing" of previous boards.

Yes and no.
Although the hardware is similar, each one has its own custom chips, so you can't convert one game to another (but you can change region and players, like going from TMHT 2P to TMNT 4P).

Battletoads was EA, not Konami though!

It's also based on TMS34020, which is a fairly complex chip that not many games used. I doubt we'd see it implemented before the TMS34010-based Williams/Midway hardware (which is a topic for another thread).

Another game is coming up tomorrow on the JTTMNT core. Stay tuned. #JTFriday

Most likely is Missing in Action (Green Beret 2), as he said on a previous Patreon post that this game should work with minimal changes to the TMNT core.

At some point we should expect Turtles in Time, Vendetta, X-Men... I don't know if Sunset Riders is much different.

The Final Round beta released.

From Jotego's Patreon post today:

On the schematics front, we completed Sunset Riders and started working on Asterix. Expect to see the cores coming up during Autumn.

Another Konami game, Punk Shot, released by Jotego as beta for patreons.

No relevant news in the patreon post, other than we should have a new game for the 29th.
