There's something that bothering me about some sound effects in Altered Beast Mister arcade core and in MAME too... let me explain:
In these two action screens

The electric wave and the electric bean sound the same but if push F2 and enter the sound test we know that the both is EFECT NO. 19, but the eletric bean should be EFECT NO. 18 just like MegaDrive version actually is. Is it possible to Jotego to fix it?

Btw the music presentation is BGM NO. 06 but isn't played in game like MegaDrive version is.

What do you guys think about it?

Well that’s interesting.
I guess arcade to mega drive isn’t a fair comparison. It’s very possible this issue exists in the real arcade pcb as well.
If mister and mame both do the same thing, this may be the case.
Perhaps the bug isn’t with the core but the version of the rom itself . Many times there are multiple revisions of games.

Exactly what I think too, maybe out there exist a Sega Altered Beast arcade board not dumped yet with the correctly placed sounds, but right now in 2021 maybe it only exist in hands of a few collectors around the world if any.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was a bug that never was corrected.

Sounds more like a software bug to me too, had to be verified against a real machine. If it is a bug, it could be the basis for a hack "Altered Beast Corrected Sound"

Very interesting. I’ll link this at A-P and see if the guys with real boards can test.

Posted, you can follow here or I'll post any useful replies back here.

So, after having someone test at least one set of ROMs, it seems this is an issue with the real PCB. Now we just need someone with the skills to fix it!

This is great, but won't solve this problem, as this exists on a real PCB.

Maybe @jotego can mess with it?

This is a software problem. It can be solved with a ROM patch, which could go inside the MRA file. Maybe someone will write it...

Indeed. I was sort of hinting at the guy who fixed the slowdown in Double Dragon would give it a shot... :P

No worries though, I know you are super busy. As long as we know it's an actual arcade game programming error, maybe someday someone will fix it!
