Will there be support for *.CHD PC-Engine CD files?

Unread post by Pupil »

All of my PCE-CD files are in *.CDE format and not bin/cue. Not sure if there will be support for these in the future of if there is any way to convert them. Otherwise I suppose they are useless and will just get rid of them.

Any info about this would be appreciated! :)

If you can load those files onto a virtual disk on your PC like Daemon Tools, then using a program like ether Img Burn or TurboRip you can create a bin/cue format.
It is my great regret that we live in an age that is proud of machines that think and suspicious of people who try to.

that's an idea. I'll give it a try and see if they are mountable.

Thanks :)

Sorry I meant CHD files I don't know where I got CDE from -_-

At any rate it doesn't look like there is a good way to convert them back to bin/cue. There is a way but multi track games will lose audio.

Guess my files are useless for this application. :(

You should be able to use chdman to convert back as it holds the information from the cue it was built from still
Although it would no doubt be quicker and easier to just get a new collection

Chdman (included with every Mame release) can convert back and forth. To convert back to cue/bin, you can use this command:

chdman extractcd -i FILE.chd -o FILE.cue -ob FILE.bin

You may get one bin file instead of multiple, but it should work the same, provided it has all the data and the cue file that chdman generates is correct.

I have done this with my games that was previously stored in CHD and the only ones I could not get to work after converting to bin/cue was translated or hacked games such as Rondo of Blood and Ys 4. My guess would be that it has something to do with the tracks being changed by the patches.

hah those were the two I had planned to convert! Oh well, I'll have to figure something out in the mean time. Perhaps down the road the core will support those formats.

It would be great if MiSTer has native support for compressed isos (CHD)

I don't see it happening, for two reasons:
- It's a compressed file format, and Sorgelig has already made it clear that compressed file formats aren't supportable for the CD files.
- CHD simply isn't that common.

This is unfortunate but not really a big deal since it's only a small, personal inconvenience to me. I will simply use bin/cue going forward and that will be that. :)

From the time of this post MiSTer now supports the CHD format. :D
(I'm posting this just for people reading up on old posts so that they know...)

Hello to all! (Completely fake message to bring up this topic.)

Edit : OK, forget it. PCE CD core IS supporting CHD files. This thread can be locked and fogotten forever.
