@Darren__O has released a beta version for Toaplan V1 hardware.

If you want to support him he now has a Kofi https://ko-fi.com/darreno

The easy way to find out is to try it yourself.

3 days ago some mras were updated.
The comment is "Fix mra formedness".
Does anyone know what it means?

github commit history for those can be viewed here:
https://github.com/va7deo/zerowing/comm ... 29d91bf10f

Looks like it changed dates and cleaned up some of the code in the MRA.

I saw that it was some changes made to the mras, I was just wondering what was the meaning of formedness.
This seems to be an extremely rare word. Looking on the internet I found:
"Well-formedness is the quality of a clause, word, or other linguistic element that conforms to the grammar of the language of which it is a part. Well-formed words or phrases are grammatical, meaning they obey all relevant rules of grammar. In contrast, a form that violates some grammar rule is ill-formed and does not constitute part of the language."
Basically it means that the mras were not grammatically correct.
So I just learned a new word which I surely forget in 5 minutes.

Hi,

Maybe I am blind, but how do I download the zerowing1.zip-file?!? I just can download the zerowing-main.zip-file, but with that file I am not able to extract the zerowing.rom.

Maybe someone could help me?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi

I appreciate the core is alpha so don't expect a solution, but I'm getting out of sync via HDMI output on 1080p and 720p video modes. I've tried tried changing vsync_adjust but no luck.

Figured it out using this setting: video_mode=1024,48,32,80,896,3,10,13,65499

Thanks!

It was discussed earlier.

Just put mra and rbf files in proper locations and run update all.

I suggest using latest files from git repository.

All informations/links can be found in this thread.

Yup. In the releases folder are the RBF and MRA files, along with alternative MRAs.

OMG am I excited about this core, THANK YOU.

However, I'm having a little trouble getting it set up, probably a n00b mistake on my end, since I'm new to MiSTer. Anyway, I followed the previous link and downloaded everything. Put the .rbf files in _Arcade/Cores and the 4x .mra files in _Arcade. Then I ran the update_all script. Now the games appear in the arcade list but they won't launch when I click them--it's like nothing happens. All my other arcade games work fine, and when I try jumping directly into one of the Toaplan games from a working one I get the "rbf not found" error, even though I can clearly see those files when I ssh into Mr and look in _Arcade/cores...

Anyway, would love a little help if you have the time, and maybe it will also help someone else having the same issues.

Double check the name of the rbf and the name of the rbf in the mra files.
The name of the rbf should be toaplan1_20220320.rbf.
In the mras you should have <rbf>toaplan1</rbf>.
When the core was first published the name of the rbf was different, may be it is the source of your problem.

Thanks, @jca. I'm all set now. As painful as this is to admit, I do so in hopes that it will help others avoid my mistakes. How you grab things in Github really matters. Right click and save link as got me html, not the properly formatted mra files. And there's an actual download link for the crucial .rbf core. Grabbing the source files correctly makes a BIG difference. Don't n00b it up like me!

Glad it helped (involuntary as I was thinking of another possible problem). Don't worry about your mistake, you are not the first one and not the last one.

Is the core meanwhile officially released and can be accessed by the update all script?

Try enabling "unofficial cores" in the downloader.sh

Pretty awesome cores. I will spend a lot of time using them.

I noticed one of the Tatsujin musics in this MiSTer core needs the bass enabled or something. At the first main boss tank.

We're working on OPL2. I am picking up a Tatsujin board later this week for Darren's Toaplan core similar to what I did with Out Zone.

Does anyone know if there is an mra file that removes the red flashing effect in Zero Wing or if this could this be added as an option to the core in some way? I know there is a cheat in mame which disables it.

There you go... This patch can be applied to eproms and run on real hardware as well.

Many thanks for that, I didn't know it was available. In fact I have just enabled your Arcade Offset script to try the other MRA's.

Just a note, I have managed to get it work by editing the MRA as below:

from

Code: Select all

<rbf>toaplan1</rbf>
to

Code: Select all

<rbf>zerowing</rbf>
Thanks again! It's working great!

Then you are using an out of date Toaplan core. The rbf is called toaplan1 now... I suggest enabling unofficial cores in the download.sh to pull the newest releases.

Tryed that yesterday, but unfortunately Outzone is still not working with my current setup. Mister is connected by RGB-Scart to Hydra W2, and from Hydra W2 I am going to Retrotink 5x by RGB-Scart, from the Retrotink 5x I am going to my 4:3 Plasma TV (Hitachi CMP307XU) by HDMI-VGA Adapter and VGA Cable.
With this setup all other Toaplan Games work fine, except for Outzone.
I also tested a direkt connection from Mister to my Hitachi by HDMI-VGA and with that it worked well.

Anyone an idea where the problem might be?
