Pacman Cores

I'm beginning to think of giving up....

I just cannot get the Pacman cores to work. I'm downloading from the Retrodriven updater, the official updater. Nothing seems to work. I even check the MRA file and build a pacman rom zip file with the correct rom elements. Just always a black screen.

Can someone please help?

Thank you.

Share your Mister.ini file.

Do you have other cores working?
Are you using 15khz or LCD screen?

Have you tried different vsync_adjust settings in your Mister.ini?

For example

Code: Select all

[pacman]
vsync_adjust=0

Make sure you don't have a mame dir in both _arcade and /games. Should be only in one place and not both.

When you get a black screen in one of the arcade cores you can most of the time break it down to five problems:
  • Roms can't be found (e.g. roms are in the wrong place or there is more than one mame/hbmame folder in your setup)
  • You have the wrong rom set (e.g. you are missing a specific rom in your rom set)
  • Your TV set has a problem with your vsync_adjust option (MiSTer.ini)
  • Your have more than one core file
  • Or your mra file is outdated and doesn't match your core.

I'm using 2 monitors - VGA via HDMI and PVM via 15 khz IO board, with ini setting correct. I don't think the monitors/ini file are the problem since all other cores, including arcade cores are good.

The Pacman cores seem to be one that has a "load .ROM" option in the menu, whereas most others don't. I haven't tried putting the rom zip into the games folder, so I could try that.

Make sure you don’t have multiple rbf files in the core directory for the same core. I don’t think pac man should have open rom anymore.

Alan,

Appreciated - that's what did it. Multiple versions. I think those multiple versions are in the auto updaters too, so I'll have to watch it.

Thanks!

It happens to me all the time as I debug cores or build new ones. That is my fault with the design. Need to think of a way to fix this problem.

Look inside your "cores" folder and make sure you don't have more than one. Also, make sure you don't accidentally have two "mame" folders in different places (ie: _Arcade/mame and games/mame )

I've deleted all pacman and variants cores (RBF) in "_arcade\cores" folder and launched update_all.sh and now they all working and there is only one pacman RBF file :D
