Multiplayer Question

Hi, I tested some PSX 4 player games some time ago and things like Frogger, Anna's Tennis, Devil Dice worked with my 4 usb controllers.
However I took my MiSTer to friends to play some 4 player games and for the life of me I could not get any to work. The games only showed 1-2 player options.
is there a setting in the psx core that enables 4 player games? if so, could you remind me of which it is. otherwise I've no idea why its not working with 4. I know for a fact it was a few weeks ago when I did a test.
