Retrobit 2.4Ghz controllers dont work dongled or wired

I have the saturn 2.4ghz and the genesis 2.4ghz retrobit controllers and none of the buttons work - only the d-pad. Doesnt matter if I set it up in the main setting section or in each individual core.
the odd part is that it registers the impression for A B C X Y Z as I am doing it , but once I leave the setup part it immediately goes back to only allowing dpad impressions while the other buttons do nothing..
The behavior is identical on 3 of the 2.4ghz retrobit controllers I have, if im plugged in via wire or wireless - all the same.
1) does anyone have the same issue?
2) is it fixable?
