How to Get SNAC Working on NES Zapper?

Hi,
Are there any specific steps to get the zapper to work with the NES core? I have an IO board, and one of those NES snac adapters from mr addons I believe (the usb3/hdmi contraption thing).
I have a new 3rd party zapper and a classic nintendo zapper, I tried changing pretty much all the settings in the core pertaining to input, but I can't register the gun trigger or anything. On a CRT tv of course. Is my IO board the problem? If anyone can help, I would appreciate it!
