Should I use 720p or 1080p?

For GBA games I fill the screen and use interpolation. Should I use 720p or 1080p? I'm using a 4k monitor.

1080p if you're using interpolation... more pixels to interpolate with.

Thanks for the quick and easy answer!

2560x1440 (widescreen 1440p) now also seems to be supported.
That should allow the GBA to integer scale 9x
So try setting video_mode=14 in the ini file if your 4k monitor supports it.

I have set it to 1440p and it definitely better than the 720p or 1080p.

The thing about the widescreen mode is that its half horizontal resolution. So its more like 1280x1440 doubled out to 16:9. So you get slightly uneven 4.5 scaling on the horizontal that gets doubled.. or else even 4x scaling that leaves some black space. Which mode looks better probably depends on the display.

Didn't know that it worked that way. Upon closer inspection on my tv, I do notice some pixels are uneven on nearest neighbor.
Looks fine nonetheless in my opinion, but now I can see why it's not the cure-all resolution.

I remember when this was found out using an ini setting, but this would randomly crash my mister, but I was using the stock power supply then. Is this still an issue? I could never get this tto be stable. I also get audio stuttering in the Genesis and SNES cores when using this mode.

EDIT: Just asked a friend to test 1440p and he does not get the same stutter. Appears to be my capture card.

EDIT 2: Okay I solved the issue.

DO NOT SET HDMI_AUDIO_96K to on when using video_mode=14 (1440p). Turning that on gave me audio stutter and I suppose the mister HDMI scaler cannot handle the bandwidth of 1440p @ 60 with 96K audio on. Turning that off and now everthing works fine.

video_mode=14 uses pixel repetition. On many monitors you will see shimmering with this option, but it's good that we have it as an option for the people whose displays don't do that.
