How does MiSTer funding work?

Just some idle curiosity on my part. How does the funding work? Do all the developers with Patreon give pre-release access to their core builds? Is there revenue generated off the branded boards and cases like the digital I/O board and case? I’ve just never seen an open source project with branded hardware so I’m just curious how the whole process works on the backend. Thanks!
