X68000 core and external midi (other than MT32-pi) questions

I have an MT32-pi, but only a handful of X68000 games work with it in the current core (hopefully this will change in the future, would be willing to donate money or free JP<->EN translations to anyone working on it).

Found a good deal on a Roland SC-55ST. Can I assume that works with more games? If so, is it about the same as real hardware (if the game otherwise works in the current core)? Will probably get it anyway just to compare how it sounds with the MT32-pi.

Would there be any difference between using a USB adapter like the Roland UM-ONE-MK2, and the Legacypixels MiSTer MIDI which uses the user port?

MIDI is a bit flaky with the MiSTer unfortunately. I would suggest that you only buy that SC-55ST if you intend to use it for other things like a PC, and view any success with the MiSTer as an extra. There is also an SC-55 emulator ( https://github.com/skjelten/emusc )in the works, and the author of the mt32-pi seems interested in integrating that at some point. Just some things to consider.

Thanks for the concern. I know it at least works with Akumajo Dracula: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w02i6aEqrLQ
And pretty sure it works with other cores. Was mainly curious if it worked with X68000 games that aren't compatible with the MT32-Pi, like Nemesis '90, Ghouls N Ghosts, etc.

Got the SC-55ST and UM-ONE-MK2 (with UART>MIDI>USB set), and it does indeed work with quite a few games, although not ones like Nemesis 90 and the Capcom games, oh well. Definitely worth the purchase, though.
