I ordered one even though I really don't need it. I hope the microswitches are good. That was the selling point for me

Preordered on amazon US from the EU :D

I have been waiting for a very long time for a compact controller with a clicky thumbstick.

I was going to do the same, but discovered that preordering on Ali is 50% cheaper.

Oh, wow, that is a really big difference.

Edit: I am not seeing that difference, it is only almost 11 Euro cheaper.

Maybe I should have written that Amazon US is 50% more expensive.
For me it's 40Eur (ALI) vs 62Eur.

Ah, okay, that would be 33% cheaper. For me it is €51.46 vs €40,85 to have it sent to the Netherlands, so about 20% cheaper.

I think I could still cancel my Amazon order. AliExpress postage might also be faster, though there's a chance I'd have to pay duty.

For me it's 31,91€ (Item) + 17,38 (Shipping & Handling) + 10,84€ Tax == 61,41€
Why yours is 10€ cheaper?

Ali prices <150€ already include VAT.

Edit.
Using the phone app, the price went down to 36,73€.

Item $34.99
Shipping and Handling: $10.44
Total before tax: $45.43
Estimated tax top be collected: $9.54
Grand total: $54.97
Payment grand total: €51,46

Nice, I'll have a look, I didn't see a difference yesterday.

EDIT: Still €40,85 here.

A shop here was unexpectedly selling them already and even though I already had one on its way from China, which was taking a lot of time to arrive, I couldn't resist. It arrived today.

Here are my first impressions (can't compare to the original controller as I don't have one):

The clicky thumb-stick is great, it has a good indentation for your thumb, is light to operate and responsive. The click sound isn't loud, so that's good. For fighting games, you shouldn't have problems doing circle motions or double 'clicking' directions. For arcade shooters, the engage is slightly large, not really a problem in practice and maybe a modding solution will happen.

All buttons, apart from the home and star button, use regular rubber (silicone?) hat switches. Start and select are completely made from rubber. The action buttons are about the size of a thumb, which is nice. All buttons have a nice tactile feel, short travel and are light to press. Pressing two at the same time works well.

It is really light-weight, which is nice. It feels very comfortable to hold and natural to operate.

The green power lights (there are four, which can show a pairing pattern) are quite dim and hard to see when it is sunny outside.

It supports 2.4Ghz, Bluetooth or wired connections. A sliding switch at the back selects between Bluetooth and 2.4Ghz. The receiver is the standard somewhat large dongle with a brick pattern on it.

It works on the MiSTer (you can use it both wired and wirelessly). This was expected because people have been using other 8BitDo controllers with it. The home button works well as the MiSTer menu button.

Tested a few games on MiSTer. Scramble (my favorite arcade game) works absolutely fine. Same goes for Pac-Man (example of a four-way joystick game). Then I tested Tekken 3 on the PSX core. Had a little bit of trouble hitting diagonals consistently, I might just have to practice a bit.

It works fine on PC as the manual states. It is recognized by the Steam Deck, but I still need to configure it to function with Emulation Station. It should work with Android as well, but I haven't tested that. And of course it works with the Neo Geo Mini.

Mister recognizes everything that is plugged into USB or connected via Bluetooth. That it would work was not expected otherwise.

Mine was around £34 including shipping (free) & taxes (20%) to the UK, also from the 8bitdo AliExpress store.

Seemed a little cheaper than the Amazon US pre-order route for those in these wretched isles.

I ordered it the first day it was announced from amazon us.
but the import fee+ delivery was a bit high.(I live in UK)
then saw it on aliexpress chepaer and ordered from there, cancelling the amazon one.waiting for it to arrive now.

definitely something I was looking forward to.

imo it is very important to have original style controllers for the cores you care about.button layout is very important for the authentic feel and experience of games, the same way FPGA is important,or CRT look is important for that era of games.that's why I have many different controllers for Mister. 8-)

That is a great price. I paid €35 at the official 8BitDo Aliexpress shop. There has been no update on tracking for five days now. Paid €40 at the local shop and it arrived next day.

I did the same thing. I also like to have a mostly authentic experience. I love that I can experience old arcade games on a CRT close to what they look like on a real cabinet.

This controller is also a nicely compact alternative to a large arcade controller. Though the buttons feel very different of course. My favorite compact microswitch joystick is the old Suzo 'The Arcade', but it only has two buttons at most.

Does it work on MiSTer wirelessly via both Bluetooth and 2.4ghz or just 2.4ghz (with the dongle)?

I forgot to mention that the pad has button combinations to enable mapping the thumbstick to either the left or right analog stick, which is a nice addition.

yes FPGA+CRT+original layout controllers is a winning combination and crucial.

Nice, enjoy it! I really like this controller.

Mine is still stuck in China at the departure transport hub, for ten days already. AliExpress mentions a logistic delay and an estimated arrival date of September 4th. Glad I already have the one that I ordered locally.

mine hasn't arrived yet,but I saw a short video from a guy who received his controller and was not happy with the accuracy of the joystick.
there was also a comment under his video from another user who was also unhappy with inaccuracy of the joystick.
will be very disappointing if it's true.
have you tested the pad with NEOGEO fighting games?
did you notice any issues?

No, I only tried Tekken games and like I mentioned, diagonals were tricky to get right.

Someone mentioned you can't feel the directions before moving the stick, because of the round shape of it. There is a tiny bump on it, which helps a little bit. But then you have the same thing with any stick, where it is just a matter of getting used to it.

I played a number of eighties arcade games with it and that worked fine.

good to know,in the video I mentioned, they were playing King of Fighters with it,saying it’s not accurate/ sensitive diagonally like the original.hopefully it’s not too bad.
I will update once I receive mine.

madlittlepixel has his video for it now, for anyone interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZeLiei-8ns
Don't read too much into the title of the video - The part he's a little unhappy about is it not working with things it's not (yet) officially compatible with, one of those being the Analog Pocket dock, which might be relevant for some here.
