Knight Lore on Spectrum

Unread post by HerrBerzerk »

Hi,

does anyone of you got Knight Lore working on the Spectrum core? I have the start screen, select joystick press 0 to start the game, the start tune plays and then I get a black screen with border...

Do I have to select certain graphic settings or spectrum version settings to be able to play it?

Have you tried it in 48k mode?

I am pretty sure it works, but can't test it right now. Ultimate games usually didn't work on Spectrum 128 out of the box. If was necessary to enter the following command before loading:

OUT 32765, 48

Try if this helps, if it works make sure you switch the core the ZX Spectrum 48K before loading.

There is also a mod that works on 128K Spectrums, you can find it in the description of this video:

I've tried a copy on two seperate MiSTers, works flawlessly from a .tap or a .z80 in 48k mode. I was able to crash it in 128k mode after pressing 0 also.

Knight Lore was an early game when the 48k Spectrum was the pinacle. Its not surprising it cant cope with more moderns spectrums. I also played it on a 48k Spectrum In Mister with no issues.

I have it, sorry... I thought I did test in 48k mode, but obviously I did something wrong. It is working now fine.

I'm new to the Spectrum :-)

Thanks for the help!

I've played it on several CRTs before, no problems.

For what it's worth, Ultimate games work fine on 128K Spectrums, provided you are loading from tape (or tape emulation). All you need to do is select 48 BASIC from the menu, then load them using LOAD "". No need for the OUT command, or a mod.

The OUT command is required specifically when you are using a modern hardware add-on such as a DivMMC or a Spectranet which forces the Spectrum into 48 BASIC with the bank selection register still enabled (also known as 'USR 0' mode) at power on.
