The helicopter always drifts to the left when I let off the d-pad. Can anyone confirm if this is a bug?

The 5200 had analog joysticks, I don't know how well implemented they are in the 5200 core but if you want to play with a d-pad I suggest switching to the Atari 8-Bit computer core and play Choplifter! on this platform as it had digital inputs on the computer.

Also, there's no mention of the type of controller used.
It could be data from an analogue stick that's off

I was using an 8bitdo SN30 2.4G and an 8bitdo Ultimate C 2.4G controller, wired. Both did the same thing.

A couple things to double check:

  1. While the DPAD may work in some 5200 games, it's actually meant to use an analogue stick, especially for choplifter.
  2. If you are using a controller with analogue sticks, make sure you have properly configured them with MiSTer's Main first (i.e. configure the Analogue stick(s) as the Left/Right Sticks.)
  3. Good idea to test the Analogue sticks in the InputTest Core in Advance mode and check to make sure ALX/ALY change values between -127 and 127.
  4. Configure the 5200 core to use the Analogue stick for direction (u/d/l/r).
