Persistent 8.8.8.8 DNS

Unread post by misterrocks »

Is using the following in dhcpcd.conf the best way to set a static DNS address:

domain_name_servers=8.8.8.8

Will it be overwritten the next time I update?

Several solutions there including the above which I'll assume would be overwritten at the next update. I'll see if I can get the router to assign static DNS.

That's how DHCP is supposed to work: the DHCP server (your router) assigns options to the clients (your MiSTer). Usually you can set these options for the whole network but also for individual hosts if your router is worth its salt. That'd cleanly decouple your network configuration from the MiSTer's local settings.

The downloader perserves some files:

If there are any of these files in /media/fat/linux:
hostname
hosts
interfaces
resolv.conf
dhcpd.conf
fstab

they are copied into the new linux image after update
