Is it possible to hide cores without deleting them?

Unread post by Fuzzball »

I would like to setup my Mister so that the menu only shows cores that I have currently copied games to the corresponding folder. However, I still want the cores to be present, setup and updated by the update scripts. Is this possible?

it's not, but you could create a new directory in the root, and populate it with *mgl files linked to the cores you want to run..

I'm pretty sure if you put an entry in names.txt that is just "<core>:" without quotes (i.e. aliasing the core name to nothing), it has the effect of hiding it in the menu.

I've not tried this.. but i did wonder if doing this had that effect..

I'll give that a go. Thanks.

but then on next updateall they all return. Favorites script wouldn't be the solution then?

It would be nice to have the option to hide cores that have nothing in the respective games folder.

If you have Update All updating your names.txt (and thus overwriting any modifications you made), it's not going to work, obviously.

I use before and after update scripts to restore and then move (hide) unwanted cores to a subdirectory of the cores directory, described here with example scripts. viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4001

Has this worked for anybody? When I tried this, it named the core to the text of the entire following line/core setting

So 'NES' became 'NES3D: Famicom 3D' instead of not showing or showing blank.

It -used- to work, I'm certain of it, but I just tried it myself and mine just shows (in this case) "Amiga:" as a core. Sorry about that.
